I could rename this day as "Took a Wrong Turn" day because we went way out of our way for no particular reason. Sometimes in the heat of battle you make decisions and you aren't thinking particularly clearly. You aren't asking yourself the right questions. Well, that was this day. I nailed the forecast on this day for Castle Rock, SD. I beastly cell went up, and we were right on it when it started to turn and get tornado warned. We were almost directly under the area of rotation when it crossed the road, and we decided to move north and east to get ahead of it. Well, the north road had no east options for about 10 or 15 miles. So, by the time we turned east we were extremely far north of the meso. I'm not entirely sure why we didn't drive south and take an east road that went directly south of the storm, but we didn't. Fortunately, it was 2018 and no tornadoes developed but the day did end with one of the largest and most vertical whale's mouths I have ever seen.
