A great chase day with a very cool needle tornado. My friend Nick and I left Tulsa at 6 am and drove to Des Moines, IA. Shortly after we arrived storms fired, and we moved in to intercept. We were a little far out when the first tornado touched down. However, due to the fact that it was on the ground for 20 minutes allowed us to get within a mile of it by the time it dissipated. After hanging out in the falling debris for a few minutes, we continued the chase. We saw a few more wallclouds but no more tornadoes. It was a great first chase for Nick!
