This day turned out to be the best day of the 2017 season for me! We woke up in Fort Collins, CO, and we planned to target storms forming over Fort Collins later in the day. We had a difficult forecast deciding between a northern and southern target, but we stuck with our principles and the better dynamics and chose the southern target. Unfortunately, we were out of position for the major tornado of the day because of some grasslands with no roads in northern Colorado. However, we did witness many tornadoes throughout the day, and we experienced a variety of other chasing oddities: a storm with 3 mesos and 3 hooks, intertwined mid-level funnels rotating around each other and being sucked up into the updraft, and a derailed train! The storm and tornadoes spanned 3 states: Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska. What a great day!
